And if someone says: What is the proof for the correctness of this esoteric interpretation (Jawil) of yours?,
And I hope from your noble presence, O seeker, and from the presence of those among the noble believers who read this epistle, that you do not neglect—their meanings, and do not pass over them superficially; rather, gain deep comprehension of the meanings of their narrations and contemplate them with your luminous thoughts and sound intellects as much as possible. Act according to the saying: 'Seek knowledge with the intent of internalizing it (waʿāya), not merely narrating it (riwāya), for the internalizers of knowledge are few and its narrators are many.' And the Almighty said:
{Move not your tongue with it to hasten with it. Indeed, upon Us is its collection and its recitation.} (Al-Qiyamah: 16-17)
And our Master, the Commander of the Faithful, said: 'Indeed, our secret is a concealed secret, and our knowledge is difficult and arduous (ṣaʿb mustaṣʿab); none can bear it except a nigh angel (malak muqarrab), a sent prophet, or a believer whose heart Allah has tested for knowledge and faith.' And the Almighty said:
{And none is granted it except those who are patient, and none is granted it except one having a great portion.} (Fussilat: 35)
And if someone should ask: 'What is the proof of the validity of this interpretation (ta'wīl) of yours?'
