outward limits (ẓawāhir al-ḥudūd) in their private moments and among the believers, professing them as religion, believing in them, and supporting their position through the narrations commanding their performance, while neglecting the narrations commanding their rejection.
This is [done] without them distinguishing the reality of what is intended by the two contradictory statements. If they do not establish the necessity of performing them among the Opposites (al-Aḍḍād) and rejecting them in private (al-khalawāt), they will inevitably have to deem one of the two statements a lie and act against it. It is never permissible for a believer to deny any aspect of the facets of the Truth, according to the saying of the Gnostic (al-ʿĀlim)—peace be upon him:
"Whoever recognizes the Truth from one aspect and denies it from another has remained ignorant of more than he has learned."
