This corresponds to what Sheikh Muhammad al-Kalazi—sanctified be his soul—reported in his treatise al-Shāfiya (from the book The Lights and the Veils):

"The Powerful is able to manifest weakness from Himself while He is not weak, but the weak is unable to manifest power from himself. Therefore it was said: 'Weakness from the Powerful is Power.'"

I say: Indeed, He—Glory be to Him—has manifested weakness through words, deeds, and otherwise. This confirms the necessity of erasing the 'accident' (al-ʿaraḍ) arising from the existing darkness—which is due to the density of the beholder—so that the purity of the Essence may appear, and the High Power may be established and declared transcendent (tanzīh) from names and attributes. For He who manifests this power is too exalted for these forms. He manifested concealment (talbīs) and explicit declaration (taṣrīḥ) through His words and deeds as a wisdom from the Almighty for instruction and discipline.

This is as found in Kitāb al-Tawḥīd of Muhammad ibn Sinān al-Zāhirī, in his narration from Yūnus ibn Ẓabyān from Jābir, from Abū Jaʿfar [Imam al-Bāqir], who said:

"Indeed, Allah veiled Himself with the veil of women and men. Were it not for that, neither the wedded, nor the eaten, nor the drunk would be known. O Jābir, Allah veiled Himself with the heavens, and thus [the world] was ignorant of Him the believers.
