As for the intent regarding the genealogies of the Prophets, it is for likening (tashbih)—such as the likening of Christ to the 'Son of God' and his disciples to the 'children of God' as mentioned in the Gospels.
Indeed, the intent behind these verses is the transcendence of the Prophets; however, the Almighty made it a type of equivocation (tawriya) so that it would appear ambiguous to the people of denial (ahl al-inkar). This is so they do not discover the Inward Secrets (al-asrar al-batina), for the Inward must absolutely never be disclosed. Were it not for this, the Almighty would not have manifested concealment (talbis) upon them and then manifested the explicit declaration (tasrih); thus, that concealment serves as a veil (sitran) for the explicit declaration (al-tasrih). The intent behind that is instruction (ta'lim) for the believers and concealment (talbis) upon the disbelievers. This is because Allah—Exalted is He—declared the Inward statements to both the believer and the disbeliever; the believer acknowledged them, while the disbeliever denied them. Thus, He—Glory be to Him—rused against the disbeliever after his denial through the ambiguous statements following the explicit declaration to him. He—Exalted is He—referred to this by His saying:
{But those among them who did wrong changed a word for another than that which was said to them.} (Al-A'raf: 162).
Among the statements regarding this meaning is what was reported concerning the crucifixion of Lord Christ and his death, as in the Gospel of Luke:
