Jesus answered and said to them:
‘You are mistaken, because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like the angels of God in heaven.’"
This is among the Decisive Sayings (Al-Aqwal al-Muhkama) regarding the Inward, and it stands in opposition to the Concealing Sayings (Aqwal al-Talbis) that are ambiguous (mutashabiha).
Reflect, O brother, upon these two types of sayings—how excellent they are for affirming the Inward and rejecting the Outward! For he who believes in the Outward must necessarily call the Christ (peace be upon him) a liar; and he who calls his word a lie has called the Word of God a lie—God forbid! But as for he who believes in the Inward and negates religious adherence to and belief in the Outward, he has validated both statements.
This is because Marriage in the Inward (Al-Zawaj fi al-Batin) is Instruction (Al-Ta'lim). Thus, Lord Christ intended by his words to [reject] "Outward Marriage" as claimed by the people of misguidance. His saying: "You are mistaken, because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God" means you do not know the Inward of the Scriptures nor [do they know] the transcendence of His manifestations—Exalted is He—from those states, for it is through declaring Him transcendent from them that the knowledge of the Power of God is attained.
