As for "untying it"—symbolized by its rejection and the lack of religious adherence to or belief in it during Seclusion (Al-Khilwa)—this is among the mandatory duties that are indispensable, as the "People of Tawhid" have clarified. This is because he who establishes the [Outward] secretly for the sake of belief is [spiritually] the same as one who abandons it openly among the Opposites; and he who abandons it publicly before the Opposites is like one who establishes it secretly in Seclusion.
Among the sayings concerning the obligation of establishing the Outward is what was narrated from Our Master al-Sadiq—peace be from him—who said:
"Indeed, we have an Outward; whoever abandons it, Allah strips him of our Inward."
And from him also, when he sent Abu Khadija Salim bin Mukram al-Absi to the believers in al-Mada'in, he said to him:
"Establish the prayer after Knowledge their Inward meaning (Batin); fast the month of Ramadan after knowing its Inward meaning; perform the Hajj to the House of Allah after knowing its Inward meaning; and give the Zakat after knowing its Inward meaning.
