is purified; this is done among the Opposites (Al-Addad) for the sake of Veiling (Tastur) through them, not in private for the purpose of religious adherence (Tadayyun), as our Luminous Sheikh said in verse:

By Allah, that is something that cannot be correct

Nor did the Book bring it, and Truth is our quest.

We were only commanded to strive (Ijtihad), and that Our deeds be for Allah according to our strength.

And he—may Allah sanctify his person—swore by Allah the Almighty so that the Gnostic (Al-'Arif) may know that this is the Decisive Word (Al-Qawl al-Fasl) and not a cipher (ramz) at all:

"It is not permissible to abandon the Inward Worships entirely, nor to abandon the Outward Worships entirely. Rather, the duty is to establish the Inward in Seclusion and abandon it among the Opposites, just as the duty is to establish the Outward among the Opposites and abandon it in Seclusion."

Establishing the Outward among the Opposites is merely a Veil for the Inward, and for the sake of teaching and discipline (ta'dib), and so that we may know the Inward reality of worship from its Outward forms—not for the sake of religious adherence to or belief in them [the forms themselves].
