The Messenger of Allah—may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him and his family—commanded us to pray, and he himself prayed. Thus, whoever drops its obligation (faridatuha) and does not pray has indeed opposed Allah and His Messenger; and whoever opposes Allah and His Messenger is not a wise man.

The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) commanded us to give Zakat, and he gave Zakat; he commanded us to fast, and he fasted; he commanded us to perform Hajj—for whoever is able to find thereto a way—and he performed Hajj; he commanded us to Jihad, and he performed Jihad; and he commanded us to maintain the bonds of kinship (Silat al-Rahim). Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, said: {And relatives by blood are nearer to one another in the Book of Allah} (Al-Ahzab: 6). Thus, whoever does not give Zakat from his wealth, does not fast, does not perform Hajj, and does not perform Jihad with a Just Imam has indeed opposed Allah and His Messenger; and whoever opposes Allah and His Messenger is not a wise man.

The Messenger of Allah—may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him and his family—forbade us from killing, and he [himself] killed the murderer [in retribution].
