from Gnosis, and Allah shall not be worshipped except by the Intellect (Al-'Aql); and he who has no intellect has no religion."

The King said: "By what, then, is the wise man known?"

My Master said to him: "We have narrated from The Scholar—peace be from him—that he was asked about the wise man, and he said: 'The wise man is he who understands from Allah His command and His prohibition, acts upon what Allah commanded him, and refrains from what Allah forbade him. Thus, whoever is not like that is not a wise man.'
