All of these have an Outward (Zahir) and an Inward (Batin) that are interconnected with one another. Thus, the Inward does not suffice without the Outward, nor does the Outward suffice without the Inward. For this reason, disbelief (kufr) was coupled with delaying it, and proceeding toward it without knowledge.
It has been reported that the pilgrims at Arafat are of three ranks. Among them is a rank for whom Allah forgives. The Scholar (Al-’Alim)—to him be submission—said: "[This is] upon the condition of repentance from disbelief; for if he repents and turns back before " Jihad is an obligation according to the saying of the Almighty: {Not equal are those believers who sit [at home]—other than those who have a disability—and those who strive (mujahidun) in the cause of Allah with their wealth and their lives. Allah has preferred those who strive with their wealth and their lives over those who sit by a degree. And to all, Allah has promised the best [reward]. But Allah has preferred those who strive over those who sit with a great reward} (An-Nisa: 95). Among the conditions of Jihad is that it must be with a Just Imam. This is supported by the saying of the Messenger (PBUH): "Welcome to a people who have completed the Lesser Jihad (Al-Jihad al-Asghar) and are yet to fulfill the Greater Jihad (Al-Jihad al-Akbar)." It was asked: "O Messenger of Allah, and what is the Greater Jihad?" He said: "It is the Jihad of the Soul (Jihad al-Nafs)."
