By his [Al-Nu'mani's] saying: "And the most emphasized of things that we have commanded is the practice of Dissimulation (Al-Taqiya) in its proper places; it is the sanctuary of religion and an obligatory duty upon the believers in the state of the oppressors."
Our Master al-Sadiq said: "Dissimulation is my religion and the religion of my fathers; he who has no dissimulation has no religion." And it was said: "He has no faith." Thus, whoever abandons it in its proper places is a rebel against Allah, the Mighty and Majestic.
Among that is the saying of al-Sadiq—peace be from him: "If I were to tell you that the one who abandons Dissimulation is like the one who abandons prayer, I would be speaking the truth."
And he was asked about the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: {Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous (atqakum) among you} (Al-Hujurat: 13). He said: "Meaning, the one most knowledgeable among you in Dissimulation (Taqiya)."
The Companions of the Ranks (Ashab al-Maratib) used to practice Dissimulation to teach us. Al-Miqdad was an associate of Umar and the chamberlain of the House of Consultation (Dar al-Shura). Rushayd al-Hajiri would go to Umar for needs without that being held against him. Safina was commanded [by the Manifestation] to go out to the Levant (Ash-Sham).
