Would any of you find it proper to walk in the market naked? He is not of us who resides among a tribe of forty men and is not, in his outward appearance, more pious than them. Do you wish it to be said: 'The Ja'fariyyah are disbelievers'?"

And from Muhammad bin Sinan, who said: Al-Sadiq—peace be from him—said:

"Whoever practices the Outward (Al-Zahir), Allah grants him both the Outward and the Inward (Al-Batin) together; and whoever practices the Inward and abandons the Outward, Allah strips from him both the Inward and the Outward together."

And on the authority of Abd Allah, from Idris, from Ibn Sinan, who said: Al-Sadiq—peace be from him—said: "Whoever abandons the Truth inwardly is afflicted with the worship of Falsehood outwardly."

And on the authority of Muhammad bin Musa, from Muhammad bin Ja'far, from Ali bin al-Hussein, from Muhammad bin Sinan, who said: Al-Sadiq—peace be from him—said:

"Indeed, Allah manifested His Essence (Dhatuhu) so that His manners might be adopted. Therefore, whatever we have practiced, do you practice it; and whatever we have rejected, do you reject it. Imitate us and do not isolate yourselves from us. Adorn us with piety and incline people [toward us] through asceticism in this world.
