Veiling (Al-Tastur) through the establishment of those outward forms. For if the disbelievers knew what the Almighty intended by His words indicating their censure, and the affirmation of His Manifestations (Thuhurat) and His Transcendence (Tanzih), they would have disbelieved in the Quran and persisted in the enmity of the people of religion and faith. For this reason and its like, the Almighty manifested to them nothing but Maneuvering (Makar) and Disguise (Talbees) through His words and actions, as a kindness toward us and a wisdom from a Wise One, so that we may learn from His sciences and be disciplined by His manners.
Just as He named the Luminous Persons and the Divine Knowledges by the names of outward worldly things, He also named Himself by the names of created beings. He projected upon Himself eating, drinking, and all human states, and described Himself, saying:
{And Allah was ever Hearing and Seeing} (An-Nisa: 134).
And His saying: {The hand of Allah is over their hands} (Al-Fath: 10).
And His saying: {And Allah warns you of Himself} (Al-Imran: 28).
And His saying: {And there will remain the Face of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor} (Ar-Rahman: 27).
