Lord Christ—peace be upon him—pointed to this meaning in the tenth chapter of the Gospel of John, saying: "Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture..."

Why did He name for us, in His address, both esoteric and exoteric knowledge with one name?

And because the disbeliever believes in their Outward (Zahir) and denies their Inward (Batin), and due to the necessity of teaching their Luminous Inward to the affirming believer while concealing it from the denying disbeliever, he [the Manifestation] manifested The Almighty commanded its establishment, practice, and the urging toward it among the people of disbelief, rejection, wandering, and misguidance, so as to veil them through it from its Inward (Batin), and to punish them by its performance due to their disbelief in its Inward nature. This was also for the purpose of teaching the believers—those who affirm its Inward reality—how to practice Veiling (Al-Tastur) through it, and the intent of its meanings, so that it may be a light for them by which they are illuminated, and a fire for the disbeliever by which he is burned.
