And many a denier who openly announces affirmation
And a [seeming] disbeliever who is among the righteous.
And one who is silent with the Truth, rationally (mantiqiyyan)."
The singular scholar Sheikh Hussein Ahmad—may Allah sanctify him—excelled in clarifying this meaning, saying: "The fasting person is the Gnostic believer (al-mu'min al-'arif), and his fasting is his silence regarding the open declaration of the Monotheism of Allah (Tawhid Allah). The 'Day' is an expression for the Manifestation of Disclosure (Zuhur al-Kashf), and 'breaking the fast' is his declaration on that day of the Inward Sciences, disclosed before all witnesses. In that case, no sin or burden attaches to him for his declaration... etc."
Is the one who believes in these exoteric bounds correct because the Prophet (PBUH) commanded them?
Among the clear proofs for affirming the Inward (Al-Batin) and refuting the Outward (Al-Zahir) is the transcendence (Tanzih) of the Successors (Al-Awsiya') and the Prophets from human nature (Al-Bashariyya); for he who believes in the Outward must necessarily believe that they are human beings, and this is a sufficient statement, God willing.
And if one should say: "The one who believes in these Outward boundaries (Al-Hudud al-Zahira) is correct because the Prophet (PBUH) established them and commanded them."
