And similar to it is what he [Hasan bin Makzun]—may Allah sanctify him—declared regarding the affirmation of the Inward (Batin) and the rejection of all Outward Obligations (Al-Fara’id al-Zahira) in his poetry, saying:
“Practice the Masnoon (tradition) of Love in my creed
And reject the Furood (obligations) of the other creeds.
Follow my path in its love towards it [the Meaning]
And do not stray from the Sanctuary toward the ruins. Take the Qibla (direction of prayer) toward Her face
For it is the most magnificent of Qiblas for the people of passion.”
The scholar and practitioner, Sheikh Ali bin Mansour al-Suwayri (Q), said—pointing to the rejection of the Outward and the affirmation of the Inward in his poem:
“It is not something eaten or drunk
Nor something worn or ridden.
And Allah’s intent is not punishment
Through the hunger of the liver; that is not what is sought.
