We did not find you fasting

nor standing [in prayer] at the break of dawn."

...unto his saying:

"Nor were you among those who

to the Kaaba performed Hajj or ‘Umrah

Nor did you strive in Jihad, nor

did you migrate for the soul’s purpose.

Nor did you pay Zakat, nor

did you give, except for the sake of Remembrance (Dhikr).

And you ceased not to reveal the cups, heedlessly to the sound of the stringed instrument."

...unto his saying:

"So I said: O one-eyed one (A‘war)!

Your one-eyedness has hidden me from you.

Does the one outside see what is hidden inside the house? The denial of my knowledge comes from

an ingrate who rejects what I have affirmed.

My desire is to veil that which

Allah has veiled from him.
