Verily, Allah the Almighty has struck for us this astonishing and marvelous parable with this creative and wondrous imagery, so that we may use it as evidence for the method of instruction and discipline and that is [symbolized by] the following of Moses to Al-Khidr (peace be upon them both) so that he might teach him "Right Conduct" (Al-Rushd), which is the Inward Knowledge (Al-'Ilm al-Batin). The demolition of the wall symbolizes the refutation of the Outward (Al-Zahir), and its reconstruction after the demolition symbolizes the obligation of establishing the Outward—only to veil the Treasure of the Inward, not for the sake of belief or religious practice.

The proof of this is that he [Al-Khidr] only rebuilt it to hide the Treasure; had it not been for that, he would not have rebuilt it at all. This was for the sake of the two righteous orphans, who symbolize the Knower (Al-'Alim) and the Learner (Al-Muta'allim), serving as a sign for the "People of the Treasure," an image to guide them to the hoard, and a fortified barrier to prevent the People of Misguidance from discovering or reaching it.

As for Moses’ inability to remain patient with Al-Khidr’s knowledge, it is an instruction for us, demonstrating that a lower-ranking seeker cannot endure the knowledge of a higher-ranking sage, nor can he accept it without clarification.
