As for the leaves of Paradise which they began to fasten over themselves to hide behind, these are the Heavenly Manifestations and Gnosis (Al-Ma’arif al-Samawiyya) through which they hoped to veil themselves—meaning, they hoped these would be the means to strip away those "evil shirts" [the physical bodies], which were only [created] from evil deeds and sins. This is because, just as the Almighty creates human bodies (abdan bashariyya) out of disobedience, He likewise creates luminous celestial bodies (ajraman nuraniyyan) out of obedience—measure for measure and weight for weight.

It was said in another aspect: the uncovering of their private parts (suw'atuhuma) is the disclosure of their knowledge, which grieves them (yasū’uhuma) in the presence of the Opposite (Al-Didd), after the Almighty had forbidden them from revealing any of their sciences to him or informing him of the origin of their existence.

Just as He—the Almighty—has forbidden us from mixing with the Opposites and from divulging esoteric secrets to them. The evidence for this is His—the Almighty’s—saying: {O children of Adam, We have bestowed upon you clothing to conceal your private parts and as adornment. But the clothing of piety (Libas al-Taqwa)—that is best. That is from the signs of Allah that perhaps they will remember} (Al-A’raf: 26).
