The path of my passion, whose easy way is difficult; For others, it is distance, but for me, it is nearness.
I drank therein from it cups whose taste—
Is bitter to the ignorant, but sweet to the Gnostic.
I witnessed the radiance of the wine (Al-Rah) within them, as if—
It were suns appearing from the darkness, its East becoming West.
The Almighty said in Surah Al-Furqan: {And He is who has released the two seas: this one fresh and sweet, and this one salty and bitter, and He placed between them a barrier (Barzakh) and a forbidden partition} (Al-Furqan: 53). The barrier which the Almighty placed between them—meaning between the believers and the disbelievers—is the Outward Knowledge (Al-'Ilm al-Zahir), which the Almighty pointed to in His saying: {And the two seas are not alike: this one fresh and sweet, pleasant to drink, and this one salty and bitter...} (Fatir: 12).
