"When Christ the Son came—though He is truly the Father in the image of Sonship—and dwelt within the Mary-ness (al-Maryamiyyah), He altered the law of Moses (PBUH) and showed them mercy. He said: 'Eat what you wish and feed [others] everything that pleases your souls.' He lifted from them the ritual bath (ghusl) from major impurity and the minor ablution (wudu).

Do you not see, O seeker, that He liberated them from much of what Moses had imposed upon them and eased much of the shackles and burdens He had intensified? He said: 'Indeed, God is self-sufficient and has no need of your deeds; so if you wish, perform them, and if you wish, do not—provided you have understood the sweetness of freedom.'

He informed them that the intensification [of the law] was only during the time of their ignorance. But when they perfected their Gnosis and recognized Him through the manifestation of Divinity (al-tajallī bi-al-ilāhiyyah), they became His children, and the knowledge they attained lightened their burden. Likewise, when they recognized Him as the Father and the Son, He emancipated them. For when the free person reaches the degree of Gnosis with God, he becomes truly living—acting neither out of greed [for Paradise] nor fear [of Hell]—having reached the station of freedom, emancipated from all of that.
