I asked: "My Master, and when is the time of my breaking the fast?"

He said: "When the Qā'im (the Riser) rises, the believer shall speak of all the Truth that is in his heart; that is his breaking of the fast."

And on the authority of our Master al-'Alim—peace be upon him—that he said:

"Silence in the State of the Tyrants is worship."

The practicing scholar, Sheikh Hasan bin Makzun—may God sanctify him—pointed to this meaning in his treatise titled Tazkiyat al-Nafs (The Purification of the Soul) regarding the meaning of His saying, the Almighty: {And whoever among you is ill or on a journey} (Al-Baqarah: 184).

[He interpreted it as]: Meaning the seeker of the sciences of Truth; thus, their "fasting" during the "other days" is their adherence to the exoteric days rather than the esoteric ones, and to the outward fast rather than the inward one, until the traveler reaches his destination.
