I [Mufaddal] said: "And what is that?"
He said:
"Whoever is hostile to Truth and its people is from the progeny of Iblis, and whoever is hostile to falsehood and its people is from the progeny of Adam."
I said: "Sufficient for me, sufficient for me! No clarification is clearer than this."
Similarly, what al-Mufaddal narrated from our Master al-Sadiq—peace be upon them both—in the book al-Aẓilla wa al-Ashbāḥ (The Shadows and the Apparitions), stating:
My Master—peace be upon him—said:
"O Mufaddal, do you know why Iblis (Satan)—may God curse him—disobeyed?"
I said, "O my Master, you are more knowledgeable."
He said: "Indeed, Iblis is Ignorance (al-Jahl); he was created from ignorance, doubt, confusion, disobedience, and darkness, for they wronged themselves. In his sphere, there is nothing of forbearance or knowledge; rather, he is dark, never emerging from darkness, denial, rejection, and disbelief. He never returns nor obeys, for ever and all eternity.
