As for what is intended by their being cast down and broken, as He Almighty informed by His saying: {And he cast down the tablets and took hold of his brother's head, pulling him toward him} (Al-A'raf: 150), it is an alert to indicate the dropping of the exoteric (isqat al-zahir) and the affirmation of what is intended of the esoteric (ithbat al-batin); and God knows best.
It also indicates that it is not permissible to disclose this esoteric religion to the disbelievers because it is forbidden to them, due to His Almighty’s saying in the previously mentioned verse: {They said, "Indeed, God has forbidden them both to the disbelievers."} (Al-A'raf: 50).
Among what indicates this meaning is what the author of the book Hāwī al-Asrār (The Collector of Secrets) reported from the book al-Haft wa al-Aẓilla (The Seven and the Shadows) on the authority of the Master—peace be upon him—who said:
"My veils are many, and in all of them I have settled others; all of that is a trial for the progeny of Satan so that they do not recognize me nor worship me with the reality of gnosis (haqīqat al-ma‘rifah)."
