And He Almighty pointed to their delusion in Surat an-Nisa by His saying: {Then do they not reflect upon the Quran? If it had been from [any] other than God, they would have found within it much contradiction. And when there comes to them information about [public] security or fear, they spread it. But if they had referred it back to the Messenger and to those in authority among them, those who can draw conclusions from it (yastanbiṭūnahu) among them would have known it. And if not for the favor of God upon you and His mercy, you would have followed Satan, except for a few.} (An-Nisa: 82-83).
And Prince Hasan bin Makzun—may God sanctify him—said regarding that meaning in his poetry:
Agreed upon delusion, they have converged;
they censured the callers of the righteous and refuted [them].
If they are made to hear a known truth, they deny [it];
or if they are shown a sign of sincerity, they apostatize.
By their claim, they are the callers to guidance,
yet the brute cattle are more rightly guided than them.
They misled most of humanity with the exoteric (Zahir) of what they narrated,
and before them, they barred the paths to the esoteric (Bawatin).
