And He Almighty pointed to this meaning in Surat an-Najm, saying: {So have you considered al-Lat and al-Uzza, and Manat, the third—the other? ... (up to His saying) ... They are not but names you have named, you and your fathers, for which God has sent down no authority. They follow not except conjecture (al-Dhann) and what the souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. ... (up to His saying) ... Indeed, those who do not believe in the Hereafter name the angels with female names, and they have thereof no knowledge. They follow not except conjecture, and indeed, conjecture avails not against the truth at all. So turn away from him who turns away from Our remembrance and desires not except the life of this world.} (An-Najm: 19-29).
And He Almighty said in Surat Luqman: {And if you should ask them, "Who created the heavens and the earth?" they would surely say, "God." Say, "[All] praise is [due] to God"; but most of them do not know.} (Luqman: 25).
And He Almighty said in Surat az-Zukhruf: {And if you should ask them who created them, they would surely say, "God." So how are they deluded?} (Az-Zukhruf: 87).
And He Almighty said, censuring their deities in Surat al-Hajj: {And of the people is he who worships God on an edge... (up to His saying) ... He invokes him whose harm is closer than his benefit—how wretched a patron and how wretched an associate!} (Al-Hajj: 11-13).
