The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say: Look, a glutton and a winebibber, a friend of tax collectors and sinners! But wisdom is justified by all her children.”
And to this meaning, Abdullah bin Saba and his brothers pointed when the Commander of the Faithful (PBUH) asked them: “Why do you eat during the day in Ramadan?” and they said to him: “You are You.” They did not add to that, so he recognized their intent and moved on.
And among that is their interpretation of His Almighty's saying: {So whoever among you witnesses the month, let him fast it} (Al-Baqarah: 185) that it is the known part of the year which they call a month; and they did not recognize the indication (al-isharah) from the expression (al-'ibarah).
And in the Quddas al-Rayhan (The Mass of the Basil), it is said:
"Indeed, were it not for the Names, no one would be distinguished from another, nor any one thing from another: neither the world of the heavens, nor the world of the earth, nor all the creeping things, insects, or plants... etc."
Furthermore, this formal and symbolic duration which they call the Month of Ramadan is nothing but a Mathal (symbol/exemplar) indicating a Mamthul (the symbolized reality). Due to the intensity of their denial and disbelief, they profess and believe in the symbol while rejecting the symbolized reality.
