The People of Monotheism also believe that Zakat is the Most Noble Gate, as our Luminous Sheikh pointed to in his poetry, saying:

Just as Zakat is the Gate

Salman is none other than he

And his name is Gabriel

A guide to the Messenger

The name of Zakat is applied among the People of Monotheism to the Commander of the Faithful (Amir al-Mu'minin), as our Master al-Janan—peace be upon him—reported in the book Idah al-Misbah on the authority of our Master, the Commander of the Faithful, that he said:

"I am the wealth of the believers, and they have no Zakat other than me."

The name of Zakat is also applied among them to the second degree of the ranks of the Chiefs (al-Nuqaba), who are seventy saints; the greatest and most virtuous of them is Abdullah bin Hizam al-Ansari.

Know that the name of Jihad among the people of the exoteric (Ahl al-Zahir) is applied to fighting in defense of the religion they believe in.

As for the opinion of the People of Monotheism, Jihad is the struggle of the soul (Jihad al-Nafs) in obedience to God through esoteric knowledge and action—in word, deed, and intent.
