And this confirms that righteousness (al-Birr), which is the pleasing deed, is but faith in the Commander of the Faithful, the Name (al-Ism), the Gate (al-Bab), the Orphans (al-Aytam), and all the worlds of light; and [that he] "gave wealth"—which is the gnosis of them—to its people mentioned previously in this noble verse. Master al-Makzun, may God sanctify him, said in his poetry:

Do not visit the site of an abode that has become vacant, But visit a sanctuary from which its radiance has never departed.

And He Almighty pointed to the crescents (al-Ahilla) as being markers of time for the people and for pilgrimage in Surat al-Baqarah, saying: {They ask you about the crescents. Say: They are markers of time for the people and for the pilgrimage. And righteousness is not that you enter houses from their backs, but righteousness is [in] one who fears [God]. And enter houses through their doors and fear God that you may succeed.} (Al-Baqarah: 189).

Its meaning is that the rising of the moon, its waxing, fullness, waning, disappearance, appearance, and other than that, are all but evidences indicating the pilgrimage (Hajj), which is the seeking of esoteric religious knowledges. Then He emphasized the negation of belief in the exoteric by His saying: {And righteousness is not that you enter houses from their backs} (Al-Baqarah: 189).
