Spiritual Journeying and Travel (Al-Sayr wa Al-Safar)
As for the opinion of the people of monotheism, indeed the praised journeying with which He Almighty addressed us in His Mighty Book is diligence and striving in seeking knowledge and gnosis, because it is the journeying upon the path of the divine religious reality, if the locus of His Almighty's address in it is with praise, for the saying of the Prophet (PBUH): Travel, you will gain.
And His intent by travel here is seeking the luminous knowledge, just as He Almighty pointed to this meaning in Surat Saba, saying:
{And We placed between them and the cities which We had blessed, prominent cities, and We determined the journeying through them: "Travel through them by nights and days in safety."} (Saba: 18)
And likewise the travel for pilgrimage which He Almighty commanded and obligated upon the believers by His, Mighty and Majestic, saying: {And due to God from the people is a pilgrimage to the House - for whoever is able to find thereto a way.} (Aal Imran: 97)
Which indicates diligence and striving in seeking the divine sciences represented by journeying upon the straight path.
As for the meaning of abstaining from this journeying coupled with praise, it is abstaining from seeking the esoteric secrets aloud and from revealing them to the adversaries.
