I said: "So what about the Bedouins who raid the pilgrims?" He said: "The pilgrims are the believers, and the Bedouins are the deficient ones who raid the believers and divulge their secret."

I said: "So what is the meaning of Mina?" He said: "The manifestation of God in His essence, so they acknowledged Him long ago, and declared His Oneness and knew Him, and so it was named Mina."

I said: "So what about Arafat?" He said: "They found Him, so they knew Him, and so it was named Arafat."

I said: "So what about the standing place (al-mawāqif)?" He said: "The people stood in their supplication to the One whom the people wanted to worship."

I said: "So why was Muzdalifah named Muzdalifah?" He said: "Because the person of the Creator spoke there, so the people drew close (izdalafa) to him when they saw the wonders of His wisdom. Everyone desired the swiftness of the response."
