[23] Our master the Messenger, may His might be glorified, said: "The believer is a fasting person forever."

And God, may His praise be glorified, said:

"Fasting has been prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become righteous - for a limited number of days." ¹

And may His praise be glorified, He said in the story of Mary: {"Say, 'Indeed, I have vowed to the Most Gracious a fast, so I will not speak today to any human being.'"}²
