Ghaliba ibn Ahmad entered upon the Commander of the Faithful (Amir al-Mu'minin)—may His Might be exalted—and said to Him: "O my Master, are You You?"
He replied:"Yes. I am the One in whom the Children of Israel believed. I am the One whom Noah called upon, and what an Excellent Responder I was to him. I am the One whom the Person of the Whale (Dhu al-Nun) called upon in the depths of darkness: 'There is no deity but You, Glory be to You! Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers.' I am the One who called out to Moses: 'Indeed, I am Allah, there is no deity but I.' I am the One who spoke to him from the Tree.
I am the One who sent to Mary the one who breathed into her from Our Spirit. I am the One who raised Idris to a lofty station. I am the One who purified Jesus and raised him unto Myself. I am the One whom the generations sought. I am the Most Merciful (al-Rahman) who established Himself upon the Throne; to Me belongs what is in the heavens, what is on the earth, what is between them, and what is beneath the soil.
I am Allah, there is no deity but I.
