He said: 'Would you like me to bring him here before you so you can see what has befallen him?' I replied: 'Yes, my Master.'
He [Jabir] moved his lips with words I did not understand, and after a short while, the man suddenly appeared before me, shackled in iron. Jabir asked: 'What do you wish for me to do with him?' I said: 'The matter belongs to Allah and to you, my Master.'
He said: 'O Earth, take him!' Thereupon, the earth swallowed him, and I never saw him again. I then said: 'I believe in Allah, His signs, His stations (maqamat), and His Gates (abwab).'"
[156] And through his chain of transmission from Al-Mufaddal (peace be upon him), who said:
"While Jabir was passing through one of the streets of Kufa, he saw a crowd gathered. He drew near and found a deceased stranger; a man was saying: 'Shroud him for the sake of Allah!' yet no one would provide a shroud. Jabir went about his business and returned, only to find the crowd and the dead man still in the same state.
