The Commander of the Faithful, Mighty is His Might, said: 'You have spoken the truth, O Eel, and you have preserved [the memory of] what transpired.'

The Eel said: 'O Commander of the Faithful, is there any repentance?'

He, Mighty is His Might, replied: 'The term (Al-Ajal) is the Day of Resurrection, which is the Day of the Appointed Time; and Allah is the best of guardians, and He is the most merciful of the merciful.'

Al-Asbagh ibn Nubatah said: 'By Allah, we heard what that Eel said; we comprehended it, wrote it down, and presented it to the Commander of the Faithful, and he—by Allah—verified it for us. Furthermore, some of the people who were present [there] were transformed into eels. This was among the wondrous signs (Dala'il) of the Commander of the Faithful, Mighty is His Might.'"
