We witnessed horses grazing in that meadow; they drew near to us and he ordered us to ride. We rode and he rode. The horses set off and ran, yet we did not feel their hooves upon the earth. We continued traveling until night fell. We were in that state, seeing no light on the earth, when we heard the roar of great water.

We said to him: "O our Master, what is this sound we hear?" He said: "Rejoice! We have reached the City of the King and the House of Wisdom which has not yet reached its completion and perfection. Look before you; what do you see?"

We looked before us and saw the mountain with water emerging from it; it had a great sound and a terrifying roar, the like of which we had never seen or heard. Then we looked and saw a great city. We descended there and remained until the morning broke, the dawn flashed, and the darkness vanished.

We reflected on the water emerging from the mountain; it came out like a pipe and descended into a great sea. We said to him: "This water emerging from the mountain—from where is it?"

He said to us: "This is emerging from the Encompassing Sea (al-Baḥr al-Muḥīṭ) and its water drains into this Great Sea, from which the seas of all other regions originate. From this place emerge the pearls, rubies, jewels, aloe wood, amber, and more; each takes from them according to his provision."

Then he showed us the House of Wisdom which had not yet reached its completion. We saw the pillars and the golden dome upon the pillars, and we saw the wooden molds which had not burned. We saw the traces the King had mentioned exactly as he described them. When we reflected upon that, we said: "O our Master, how is the arrival to these People?"

He said to us: "Through this gate from which the water emerges. You shall see a wonder of the affair."
