Their 'devil' stood out from the people and said: "We have chosen that you restore for us the House of Wisdom and manifest within it what you manifested in the lands of India."
He said to him: "Draw the place where you choose the building to be, and the location where the dome shall stand."
He drew a wide area and said to him: "We are not safe from there being wealth buried and hidden by you in this place you drew, to help you in restoring what we want from you. We have chosen to dig the place we drew ourselves—the spot where this dome shall be."
He said to them: "Do that as you choose."
They dug many cubits in the spot, and from the place they drew for the dome, a square rock like milk-white brick appeared, fixed in the earth with no apparent bottom. They said: "We have chosen that you place the pillars upon this rock, with the dome concluded upon the pillars, and that you raise the pillars and the rock until the rock ascends above the face of the earth so that all creatures may see it. And you must not seek help for anything we want restored from our wealth, and all that you do must be in our presence and witnessing."
He answered them regarding that, then said: "What is the measure of the pillars upon which you want me to conclude the dome? The bases beneath the pillars require wooden molds."
He set to work on great wood, making the molds for the pillars; their height until they rose above the earth was twenty cubits. He fitted them upon the rock at its four corners. Then he ordered that iron, copper, and lead be brought to him and placed in the wooden molds. Then he ordered that fire be kindled within them, with the people present witnessing. The fire continued to be stoked until it finished and died down, its flames vanishing. He ordered that they be uncovered. They were uncovered and the wooden molds were found unburnt, while what was within them had been smelted and turned into red gold. The dome was found completed.
