The sage who had advised obedience said: "O King, we made a first covenant and broke it; we did not fulfill what we said. We have renewed another covenant upon what he commanded, and we established that if he fulfills what we conditioned upon him—and upon ourselves regarding our return from Sun worship and entry into his obedience and return to his command and prohibition and acceptance of his Sharia and Sunnah (then we must follow)."
The King said: "Is there anyone among you who has an opinion that we may share?"
The man who had advised opposition said: "What we saw this day is impossible, forbidden, and not feasible."
The King said: "What is the opinion, when there is none in the group but that he saw it—saw the return of the sun and heard its speech?"
The man said: "O King, if the sun had truly returned after its setting, the earth and those upon it would have perished. This is a sorcerer who bewitches the eyes of the people, showing them what has no reality and what is not possible to exist or occur. My opinion is that we demand of him the House of Wisdom and find fault in what we want from him; after that, we remain free in our choices. If the King sees fit to leave the debate and choice of what we want to me, let him do so."
The King said: "I have left that to you; you be the one in charge of addressing him and returning his answer."
The next morning, the people gathered and the King went out with his numbers, ministers, and the people of his kingdom until they approached the fissure through which the water emerges. The Ancient of Time appeared to them and said: "Look at what you wish and choose." This was in the place where he first saw them and they saw him, hearing his speech and he hearing theirs.
