Then he vanished from the People. This was the first of his manifestations. When his absence grew long for them, they made an idol (ṣanam) and fashioned for it a dome in the shape of the (original) dome, a throne, and a crown. They seated it upon the throne, placed the crown upon its head, and made the Budd (al-Badd, i.e., Buddha) an image (mithāl) of him. The sages among them venerate and honor it, while the ignorant among the people of India worship it. Whenever a thousand years pass, he appears; his sign is that he opens the lock and the two doors which, if a group of people gathered, they would not be able to open. Then he enters, extracts the trust, returns the leg to the throne, and ascends it. His affair proceeds as I have mentioned to you.
What our scholars and virtuous ones recorded was that the people remained worshiping the Sun in the lands of India and in the lands of the King called the King of Kings for eighty thousand years. From the time his companions and lands perished, and India returned from Sun worship until where we have reached, it has been thirty-five thousand years.
My Master said to him: "If the King—may Allah prolong his life—sees fit to favor us by mentioning the reason that necessitated the destruction of the King called the King of Kings and his companions and lands, the favor would be his."
He said: "With love and honor. I shall mention it to you both in another assembly, if Allah the Exalted wills."
