not understand. No sooner had he finished the speech than she moved and stood up, saying to the King: "This is the one who returned my soul to me and revived me," and she pointed with her hand toward him. This was well-received by him, and everyone in the lands of India believed in him.
Then he ordered that a pit be dug and drew a design, and he ordered that a building be constructed—it is this very place where the House of Wisdom is. When that building was constructed and the door was fixed, he locked it; it had no dome or anything else. He remained for several days, then ordered the door to be opened. It was opened, and he ordered the people to enter. They entered and found the dome and the building as you have seen and witnessed it. He sat upon the throne and ordered the people to circumambulate around him, and they did so.
Then he made known to the people what was a thousand years ago and what will be until a thousand years. He arranged the people into ranks and organized them into layers, establishing his laws among them, making his obligations mandatory upon them, and disciplining them with his manners. When their religion was perfected and they knew the lawful and forbidden, the obligations and the laws, he brought them (to the House). He took one of the legs of the throne and removed it with him, and took the crown. He said to the rock: "O Rock, open and receive my trust (wadī‘atī)!" The rock opened, and he entrusted it with the crown and the leg. Then he said to it: "Close!" and it returned to its first state.
Then he went out of the House and locked the two doors and padlocked them. He extended his hand to an opening above the door and left the key in it. He said to the people: "No one shall open the lock and the door, nor take the trust from the rock and return the leg to the throne and sit upon it, except for Me. No one besides Me is capable of this. I shall not appear to you until a thousand years have passed from this time of Mine."
