Then he ordered the astrologers of the woman, daughter of the King of Kings, to perform an observation. They did so, and he had intercourse with her at the chosen time. She conceived, the pregnancy became manifest, and he watched for the birth until she bore. They looked at the newborn and found him a leper, mute, and mentally impaired—in a viler state than the first newborn. The maiden, daughter of the King of Kings, ordered the execution of her astrologers, and he killed the greatest of them. A great matter befell her from this.

The King of India remained thus for a few days, then ordered that astrologers and sages from all cities be brought to him. They were brought, and he ordered them to cast a horoscope and observation and to take a choice of time. They did so. When the chosen time came, he had intercourse with her and she conceived. He ordered that she be guarded in all she ate and drank until her pregnancy was complete. She bore a crippled boy with many infirmities, compared to which the infirmities of the first two sons were slight.

He ordered the astrologers to be brought. He informed them of the state of the newborn. One of them, a man of wisdom, knowledge, and mastery of the craft of astrology, said: 'O King, consider the choice we made, and examine the choice made by the previous astrologers whom you ordered killed. Bring forth those who excel in the craft of astrology. If you find a mistake in what we did, or a lapse, or an error, or that we brought something not found in the science of the stars, then our blood is lawful for the King; Allah will not demand it of him. But if you find that our choice was the most auspicious time, and that all the planets at that time were looking with the eye of happiness and were in the houses of their exaltation, and that they were not in conjunction with misfortune—then the King will know that this matter proceeded from Allah, Exalted Glory, and we had no part in it. Allah, Exalted Glory, has a secret in this matter that will be revealed to you after a time, and we are innocent of it.'
