from the door; we did not know if his hand grew long to reach the place or if the wall grew short toward him. He took the key and pointed with it toward the lock, and the door opened. He entered and we followed him. We saw a great, high, square rock upon which were four pillars, topped by a dome of gold. In the center of the dome was a chain, and at its end a hanging lamp was glowing. Upon the rock was a throne with three legs. When he approached the rock, he said to it: 'O Rock, bring forth the trust (al-wadī‘ah)!' The rock opened, and he extended his hand and brought out the fourth leg of the throne and brought out the crown. The rock returned to its state. He extended his hand to the throne, fitted the leg upon it, and ascended it. He ordered us, and we circumambulated around him from where we faced him, seven times.
The King said: 'O our Lord, do you take over the kingdom and command us with your order to demolish the House?' He said to us: 'The time has not yet arrived. Remain as you are and wait for me, for soon I shall appear. My name is Muhammad, and I am the Awaited (al-Muntaẓar).' Then he took the crown and the leg, ordered the rock to open, and it opened. He returned the crown and the leg to it, then it returned to its state as it was.
He went out and we went out with him. He said to us: 'No one does this act that I have done except me.' I said to him: 'O our Lord, what do you command us?' He said: 'I command you with the fear of Allah and that you rectify your deeds.' Then he returned to the House, closed the door upon himself, and the lock returned to its state without anyone locking it. We intended to depart, but he called us from atop the House: 'You shall not see me, nor shall I appear to you, except from the place in which I vanish.' Then he informed us of what would be until nine hundred years had passed. The sun descended until we feared for ourselves and thought it was with us; then it returned to its place, and we did not see him after that.
I said to the Sheikh: 'This is a great power, may Allah prolong your life! I want you to make me know who this is who showed us this miracle,
