He is a worshiper therein; the people go out to him and ask him, he answers them, and they hear wonders from him. And far from us is the Valley of the Beasts (Wādi Masba'); in the valley are worshipers who have isolated themselves for the worship of Allah — Exalted Glory — and they have a sheikh who surpasses them in virtue, science, and abundance of understanding. So let us go to the young man to seek guidance from him and ask him, for he will guide us."

He said: We all rose and hastened until we came to the garden in which the youth was. We knocked on his door, he opened for us and we entered upon him. We found him sitting in his prayer niche (miḥrāb). When he saw us, he rose for us, greeted us, and seated us. Then he asked us about our names, and we named ourselves to him. He said to us: "What is your concern, what do you choose, and why have you come with purpose?" The Indian said to him: "We have come to you for a question we wish to ask you." The youth said: "Ask, and with Allah is success."

The Indian said to him: "O youth, do you know Allah in all of His creation?" The youth said: "Yes. If He had not appeared to all of His creation, the acknowledger would not be known from the denier, nor the rejecter from the gnostic. The denier would have been praiseworthy and the acknowledger blameworthy."

The Indian asked: "And how is that?" The youth said: "Because the acknowledger would have acknowledged what is not recognized, and the denier would have denied what is not recognized. Thus, the denier who denied what is not recognized would be truthful and praiseworthy, and the acknowledger, by his acknowledgment of what he does not recognize, would be a liar and blameworthy. Allah — Exalted Glory — said: «And when there came to them a Book from Allah confirming that which was with them - although before they used to pray for victory against those who disbelieved - but [then] when there came to them that which they recognized, they disbelieved in it; so the curse of Allah will be upon the disbelievers»1. Thus, Allah
