From the 'Treatise of Guidance and Direction' (Risalat Hidaya wa Irshad): By Sheikh Mahmoud al-Sufi (may God sanctify his soul).

He says: When the eyes of the 'People of Temperament' (Ahl al-Mizaj) were diverted from gazing upon the Unveiled Form (al-Surah al-Anza’iyya), and He tried them by having them look upon the Compassionate Form (al-Surah al-Hinniyya)... etc.

He says: If the Essential Form (al-Surah al-Dhatiyya) is established, and the Mim-Form (al-Surah al-Mimiyya) is established, and the pointing proceeds from the Mim [the Name/Muhammad] to the 'Ayn [the Meaning/Ali]: then the Lord has been recognized.

He says: However, if the two forms—the Mim and the 'Ayn—are both manifest: then the Distinction (al-Farq) has occurred, and the Lord has been recognized.

He says, refuting [an opposing view]: [They claim] that the speech which the ears heard and the hearts perceived from that Essential Form upon the pulpit of Kufa was 'Muhammadi' [derived from the Name]—we seek refuge in God [from such a claim]!

He says, also refuting: [They claim] that every word heard by the ears and perceived by the hearts from that Unveiled Form was 'Muhammadi'—we seek refuge in God [from such a claim]!"
