Indeed, he who worships what he does not see has worshipped nothing; he who worships the unknown has fallen upon the unknown; and he who worships the absent is like one who does not know Him—neither does his worship manifest a reward, nor does his negligence incur a punishment. This is because his object of worship has no reality according to the People of Gnosis, for he did not know that the Worshipped One is established through Form and Likeness (al-Surah wa al-Mithal)."

He says: Thus, when the believer perfects his faith and comes to hear through God and see through Him, the world of purity becomes manifest to him from the world of opacity. He becomes empowered to ascend to the Abode of Subsistence (Alam al-Baqa'), comprehends the cosmic and nominal realities, reaches the Gate, and recognizes the station of the Veil (al-Hijab). He beholds God in the form of the Great Elder—as with Moses; the young child—as with Jesus; and the elegant youth with a trimmed mustache—as with Muhammad. From that station, he witnesses the Divine Unveiled Visual Form (al-Surah al-Mar'iyya al-Ilahiyya al-Anza'iyya) which has never departed from its [essential] being, even if it manifested to its [outward] vision.
