Thus, he saw of the Light that which was greater than his own person and more inward than his Example. Then, some of what veiled His Example became apparent to him, and he found the weakness of humanity fading away from him—a degree [of strength] whose perfection he had not yet reached. {And Moses fell down unconscious} 1 , meaning he fell prostrate, humbled, and submissive, saying: {I repent to You, and I am the first of the believers.}
He [Abu Sa’id] says: "As for the Day of ‘Arafah: it is the day in which the believers recognized (ta’arafa) one another, when the Meaning appeared to them in His Celestial Image."
He says: "His appearance in the Visible Image for the [human] species was as a Human Name, yet within its interior was a Radiant, Shimmering Light (Nur Shu’sha’ani)." He further says: "I manifested to Your creation in the most sublime station and the most perfect image, and I named Myself 'The Most High, the Grand' 2 ."
He says: "Furthermore, He remained manifest in His heavens in the Anza’i Image, which neither changes nor vanishes." And he says: "The first to unify Him through the Anza’i Attribute—and witness Him in the Majesty of Luminosity—was the one brought nigh through Gnosis and the Call (al-Da’wa)."
