We said to him: "Perception is not encompassment (Ihaata); rather, perception is existence. His saying: {But He perceives [all] vision} means He beholds the visions of all creatures without missing any part of them; and their state is never hidden from Him, for He is their Originator (Mukawwin), the Maker of their being and the place of their creation. Their visions do not perceive Him except according to the measure of the 'Beholding' (al-'Iyan) they have merited."
He [the Sheikh] says: The proof that He is visible is the saying of the Exalted: {So will you dispute with him over what he saw? And he certainly saw him in another descent, At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary—Near it is the Garden of Refuge—When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. The sight did not swerve, nor did it transgress} 1 . His mention of "the sight" (al-Basar) nullifies your claim that he saw Him with his heart and did not see Him with his eye.
He says: When the two visible Images—Muhammad and Ali—stood manifest, it was necessary to launch two Names (Ismayn), such that each of them is called by his [specific] name.
