was with Him. When He willed for 'Place' (al-Makan) to be, He brought it into being from the Light of His Essence, directed it to Himself, communed with it, and made it speak until it responded to His communion..." reaching his statement: "Is He light or darkness?"

We say to him: He is as He described Himself in His saying: {Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth} 1 . Thus, we found that He is Light, and that He possesses the 'instrument of bodies' (Alat al-Ajsam); except that He is a Light unlike [other] lights, a Thing unlike [other] things, and a Body unlike [other] bodies, forms, attributes, and instruments. Had He not been 'composed' in the semblance of bodies, forms, attributes, and instruments, existence would not have been established, nor would the Beholding (al-'Iyan) have been valid.

If someone asks: "What is the proof of His appearance in a visible image (Surah Mar'iyya)?" We say to him: "Had He not appeared in the visible image, His existence would not have been established, nor would His beholding or the certainty of Him have been valid."

He [the Sheikh] says: If he then asks: "Every image is created (Makhluqah); so how can He appear in a created thing when He only appears through His Essence?
