The Transgressor (al-Baghi): is the oppressor or the one who exceeds limits; such as one who bears witness that the Visual Form is the Universal Goal, yet subsequently denies its Ocular Vision 1 and its absolute existence. Or like one who believes that The Truth—Exalted be He—manifests [only] at the beginning and the end of time, while denying His manifestation in the periods in between—as is detailed in its proper place.

And from Al-Lat [the idol/falsehood] toward the Essence (al-Dhat) he drew near, Prostrating to me; for she is the Farthest Mosque (al-Masjid al-Aqsa) of my devotion.

He says: 'And drew near to the Essence': Meaning, he approached it through obedience. Thus, [the Essence] is the Farthest Mosque, while it is as if the Form is the Sacred Mosque (al-Masjid al-Haram).

Our sole desire is Your Love; and for Layna [the beloved], There is naught but a name, through which we alluded to Him.

He says: He addresses his Beloved, which is the Sublime Essence manifested through the Visual Form.

Footnotes

1Meaning: Those brethren who deny the Visual Form and reject its witnessing, existence, and ocularperception are not among those to whom this statement [of true witnessing] refers."
