Two lines written within the Full Moon (al-Badr)

A Meaning and a Name, explaining my breast.

He [the commentator] says: 'The author perhaps refers here to the Form of the Essence (Surat al-Dhat) and the Attribute which resembled created beings. By "Meaning", he refers to the Inaccessible Ghayb, which is barred from perception and encompassment, and which manifested that Form as a Sign (Dalala) for It, so that He might be pointed to through it.'

The sanctified and righteous [Sheikh] Ali bin Mansur said:

The Niche (al-Mishkat) is but for Existence,

A Sign so that the Worshiped One may be known.

'The Outward (al-Zhahir) is not other than the Inward (al-Batin), nor is the Inward other than the Outward; and the Attribute is not other than the One Attributed (al-Mawsuf). As the Sheikh said to Ibn Harun: "It is the attribute of the Lord through which He veiled Himself, and it is the Sign of Existence. She is He in terms of affirmation and existence; yet He is not she as a whole, nor through confinement, collection, or encompassment."
